This is a superb performance, caught live at the Musikverein in Vienna last September at a single concert. It is not 'stitched' together from various 'takes' and it has tremendous integrity, coherence and the excitement of a live performance. I much prefer it to Chailly's recent Decca recording. ... more

Top-notch performances of these Vivaldi concertos by the Cologne Chamber orchestra, full of vitality. Excellent recorded sound, with a very rich and well-defined bass. A real treat for Vivaldi lovers!

Unlike Daland I was disappointed in the sound of this SACD. It was too recessed for my taste, especially as the rear channels are used to put you in the middle of the action, but this is a contradiction in terms with such recessed sound.
