This is an old Blue Note album, dating from 1961. The remastered SACD has a 2008 copyright. In June 2010, Sibelius2 reviewed the partner Dexter Gordon SACD “Go”, and my comments are quite similar regarding the recording quality. I have not heard this set, but it has been reviewed recently (11/24/09) at by David Hurwitz. Hurwitz writes quite favorably of the set, assigning a 10/10 rating. It isn't clear whether he reviewed it in 2-CH or MCH, but I assume he did both, which leads to the ratings given ... more

This is excellent music, both in composition and performance. The stereo presentation is fine. However, the multichannel presentation is not to my tastes. Two points of clarification: 1) Symphonia domestica was recorded in 3-channel, and Le bourgeois gentilhomme was recorded in 2-channel (and both pieces were recorded in 1956). 2) Symphonia domestica starts with some quiet notes, but much of the piece is forte.
