Strauss: Eine Alpensinfonie - Shipway

Wow. This is another BIS masterpiece of a recording, and Mr. Shipway and the Sao Paulo SO bring us a fine performance. The orchestra, if not world-class sounding here, is at least very good and never disappointing. The sound of the orchestra is wide, deep, and very natural, as is the overall ...

I LOVE the music of Rachmaninov but have become familiar with the 'Dances' only the last year or so. This performance and recording, unfortunately, are NOT keepers. The performance is quite restrained and unemotional and not at all suited to Rachmaninov. The recording, too, sounds 'small'. There's ...

Oh my...I'm first....gulp... This is the famed recording released decades ago on a Vox Turnabout LP, most of which were rather noisy; this SACD is NOT. The performance is quite good, but I'm no expert on Rach's SDs. I've heard several performances lately, live and recorded, and this seems to be as ...
