I agree with the performance assessment and the overwhelming sense of presence. (The recording has plenty of ambience, however.) I'm amazed that the close mic placement did not pick up any breathing or body movement noises. I don't think they placed the listener in the center for all three pieces, ...

I must be losing my taste for new music! The Carter is too fragmented for my taste, and the Zimmermann bored the stuffing out of me! I don't have the score, but it sounds as if the orchestra is not attacking and releasing their opening chords in unison in Carter's piece. Another negative element is ...

It took me a few minutes to adjust to the rather reverberant hall and distant mic placement, but once I did, I found that I really loved the recording! I prefer to have about a "5th row seat" and this is closer to a "15th to 20th row" seat, but the distance somehow does not blur the sound. No doubt ...

Well, this is a huge disappointment. While it's great to have all three late Sonatas on SACD, I'm afraid this recording is a mere stopgap until something better comes along. She hits all the notes and shows some poetry here and there, but overall these are not heaven-storming or deeply spiritual ...

Pentatone has another winner here! The 1973 analog 4-ch master has transferred beautifully in this DSD remastering. The sound is quite warm and spacious without blurring details. Accardo was in fine form during the sessions and exhibits beautiful and stylish playing throughout, as does I Musici. ...
