These are classic brass band recordings from 1966 and 1968.
Sony SACDs from the late 90s and early 2000s are a bit hit-and-miss when it comes to sonics - the format was still somewhat in its infancy, other more "audiophile" record companies were doing it better, and Sony still had much to learn. ... more |

After hearing a few disappointing pop/rock SACDs (including SHM) I wasn't hoping for too much from this one, but I took the plunge anyway. And wow! This SACD is absolutely marvellous! It is just so lively and dynamic and natural, with not the merest hint of brightness or dipped mids or overblown ... more |

Stereo review only. I found this SACD to be quite disappointing, but then I found the MFSL audiophile CD a little disappointing too. This SACD is EQ'd thin and bright, to the extent that by about track 3 I've had enough and can't listen any further. It's not "Pet-Sounds-DVD-A-ear-bleedingly bright" ... more |
