As others have said, Chandos' recordings are often so rich that detail is clouded - but this one is decidedly above average, with a nice acoustic and no excessive reverberation. And the performance of the symphony is an excellent one - I'm no great admirer of Hickox normally, finding him efficient ...

Simply superb - Li's previous released of Chopin and Liszt have shown him fully worthy of his Warsaw Chopin competition first prize in 2000, and I reckon this is his best disc yet. The four scherzi are oft-recorded works, and comparing these performances with other sets I have, by Rubinstein, ...

I first listened to this hybrid disc in my car (not ideal I know), and my first impressions from the CD layer were that the first two movements didn't quite engage with me in the way that Bruckner almost always does - and I thought it was perhaps that this fine Japanese orchestra hadn't quite ...

Just finished listening to the Elgar in multi-channel and my first thoughts are: there is a febrile quality and lack of warmth in the violin sound that those used to more opulent interpretations will find unidiomatic.
