I'm a baby boomer rocker. I like the Rolling Stones, Dylan, Police, BloodSweat&Tears, and Pink Floyd. Some country is OK. Several years ago I bought a Shania Twain CD for my wife, and I liked it, so I had to buy this SACD.

It is clearly Shania Twain. No doubt about it. I have no idea if any of the cuts are getting "air" time, but many could and should. This SACD is very well recorded--about as good as rock gets. Clean, firm bass, clean vocals, and well defined instuments. This is her most recent album. Frankly I feel this leans more to female vocal rock than to country. I'm sure others disagree. Sure doesn't sound like Tammy Winette.

And there's 19 cuts and 74 minutes of music, and it cost $16 at Circuit City. It's a good deal.

I really like the first couple cuts, but then the cuts seem to blend together. Each cut seems to sound like the other. After a while, I wonder when the album will end--which seems like eternity. Hey 74 minutes is 1 hour and 14 minutes. I don't know if I feel this way due to my musical preference, Twain's style, or the performance. I "know" each cut differs, but I "feel" like they're the same.

Still, it's a well produced SACD with some cute songs. Recommended for people like me, and essential for those who like county.

Nov 1 Followup: I read that this CD has sold over 4 million copies and many of the cuts have become "singles", and I suspect the SACD is doing well. Doesn't surprise me. Great to have SACD options like this one. I've listened to this hyrid SACD 5 or 6 times since my review (mainly in the car), and I still can't get my finger on this one. The songs are cute, its recorded well, and its a good value for the money. Still, I just can't get into this one. I'm going to drop my performance down from a 4 to a 3, but I still think the sonics are one of the best "pop" SACDs. I logically like the length of the album, but I admit it gets boring if you just sit down an listen to the music. The length is not a problem for playing in the car, however.

Still glad I bought it.

Not being from the US means I am not exposed to Country music that often. Whether that is a bad thing depends on ones personal feelings towards Country. The fact is I hardly know any of the major Country stars popular in the US, and like most of my Country men I don’t even care. This attitude means one misses out on some great music, like Alison Krauss. But because of the lack of decent music out on SACD I started buying Alison Krauss discs, and I love them. And for that same reason I bought this Shania Twain album.
Knowing Shania only from some of her hit singles which reached the Dutch charts, I know some of her stuff is really Country and some of her stuff is just plain pop music.
Which is quiet a good mix for a singles artist, it isn’t so much for a album artist. Because things get tiresome really fast. And that’s exactly the problem I have with this album.
This album is way to long, no album should be over 70 minutes with just one artist or band. Because it’s a real drag to listen to these poppy tunes which all sound the same for over 40 minutes. The best one word description for this album would be BORING!

On first sight this sounds like an excellent recording. Good production, friendly non intrusive sounds. But this only helps in making the album even more boring. Nothing ever happens, it’s all to predictable. MAybe this would sound great on an elevator?

If your not a die hard Shania fan than steer well clear from this one.

Whatever you think about Shania Twain or this Album - the Surround-Mix is great! REALLY GREAT!

I had this Album - the usual CD Version - for a while, but never really liked it - nice background music when you have guests or something...

But then I got a SACD-Player and I bought it together with some other SACDs in a package... however - didn't listen to it first, but at some point I just sat down and put it in...

Boy - I listend to the whole CD (ok... 2 or 3 Tracks I just skipped in the middle) and I really got fun! All speakers are in permanent use, there are always some nice effects - but not two much, I really won the feeling that there suddenly was more music, more instruments on that CD.

Now whenever I like to listen to some "easy" music but not too lame, I put this one in - and I agree to one of the other reviews with saying, that we're not really talking about Country-Music, it's clearly female vocal pop - Country-Pop maybe...

So - if you like Shania you'll love that SACD - and if you not really hate her music you might have fun with the Multichannel-Track! ;)
