I took a chance on this and didnt realise it was not THE Sanderling.but Stefan...a younger version with a few similarities. He trained with Masur and it is evident,,,...I started with the Italian Symphony (4)because This has been one of my favourite symphonies for 40 years.I prefer a sunny relaxed version and this starts off more as a Germanic quick paced Mendlessohn than Italian...however the quality of the recording is excellent plus and the string tone and playing are first rate....A lot of people will either love or hate this version but to me its one I will come back to....I have had a number of recomended versions that dont come close to this in sonics or playing.(even on vinyl)..I dont really care if its not technically correct ie repeats etc It is an interesting and at the price bargain version....You add to that the other symphony...The Scottish (3)turned out to be excellent after a slightly less that inspiring start sonically....It also has the proper case thought the titles of the works are not shown on the sacd itself? ....nor is the conducters name mentioned... I know there are going to be people who disagree but If you want a bargain Mendlessohn This is it...
