This is one of my favorate SACDs. I never get tired to listening to it. The lyrics are catchy, it gets my foot moving to the beat, and if I could sing, I would. It is well recorded, even considering its age. This album was listed in one magazine's 100 best jazz albums of all time. I agree.

Most of the Armstrong best recordings are from 20's, 30's and 40's...and it will be very difficult to do any sonic magic on them..since they were all recorded direct to the wax...anotherwords no magnatic reel to reel tape recorded music back in those days....even some of the early 50's music untill up to 1958 were not recorded or released in stereo....so this SACD and it's other similiar title wich is Sachmo plays Fats....are a rarerty both as one of the later yrars best albums by Armstrong and also there are both in stereo even that it was recorded in 1954 and 1955.. the original issues both LP and CD versions were not in stereo...only these SACDs are in stereo..and they were not done in the lab with artificial enhancement into the stereo mode...apparently there were originaly recorded in stereo..however...lot of music albums...in early 50's even if they were recoded in stereo...they were printed in mono only...due to the ..not many FM stations yet..and of course all of the AM radios were in mono..so were the radios and record players at the people's homes.....!!

now the music and recoding..the recoding is nothing short of amazing...this is one of my selections that I use to showcase SACD ..those days they used all analog recording machins and tube mices.. even today can't match that kind of quality....his trumpet soars to levels that your sound system can be tested on...better the sound system better the music.

and the playing and vocals.....now it is very evident that Armstrong sang when he played the trumpet..and played the trumpet when he sang...!!
