My all time favourite blues sacd is Muddy Waters Folk Singer. This new release from Analogue Productions ranks farly close to that title.
John Lee Hooker has a great blues voice but whats interesting to note is that when one hears this music.....you can glean where rock and roll came from. Hooker gets the all important beat going and slays the listener with it.
Very hard to sit still during most of this album.....especially the first track. Other slow numbers make you think about the situation he is relating to us.. Hookers voice is rendered very nicely...the sound is warm and the other instruments sound great if a little raw.

John Lee hooker from the 60's originally issued by Impulse. Impulse were known for their recordings and this one does not stray. The music is pure JLH. The feeling that he imparts in his music can still be felt today. From the up tempo "Shake It Baby" to the slow heart felt blues of "Country Boy" and "Decoration Day" the music evokes an emotional response from the listener.
The sound quality of this transfer to SACD is excellent! JLH and the band are there in you room. The only minor quibble that I have is the left right placement of some of the instruments.
