On the program of this remarkable SACD is French music for violin and piano, with two of its most illustrious representatives, Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel. Of the former, we can hear “Beau Soir” in an arrangement by Jasha Heifetz, then “La Fille au cheveux de Lin” in an arrangement by Arthur Hartman, followed by the Sonata for Violin and Piano in three movements. Of the later, there are the “Vocalise-étude en forme d Habanera,” the Sonata for Violin and Piano also in three movements, the Posthumous Sonata, and the famous “Pavane pour une infante défunte” in an arrangement de Nilsson/Bjelland, this important recording’s two inspired servitors whom it would be a pity to ignore. Let it be known: this is a disc for lovers of beautiful music and sound.
