Has anyone had the experience of their Oppo not playing the multi-channel layer of an SACD? For the past two days mine has suddenly started playing only the two channel layer. I checked the setup and it's set to default to multi-channel. If I stop the disc, turn off the unit then back on again, all seems to be well, but that's obviously not very convenient! Back to my Sony SCD-XA5400ES!

I had something similar happen a while back with Oppo 93. Oddly, it was happening with some sacd brands more than others: BIS, for example, was the most affected. OPPO had me send it in for repairs with an offending disc included. Got it back quickly; it's still working fine to this day, but the explanation of the problem was brief and cryptic. Something having to do with laser, in a vague way.

It's happened with two different labels so far. As long as the Blu ray discs play properly, then all is well. I'll check it out when I get the chance.

I've had similar issues with my NuForce OPPO BDP~83 with my selected mch option playing in stereo. But I don't use the machine enough to really consider it an issue. Probably is a laser reading glitch which I will address down the road.
But OPPO does have an excellent and responsive service department so I wouldn't fret too much.

If it happens with discs that played without a problem before, it's most likely a hardware defect.

I too recently had a similar issue when I swapped a Blu-ray for an SACD. The player just displayed 'Loading' and did nothing else. Even ejecting and reloading with different discs of different formats made no difference. Power cycling resolved it.

I contacted their customer service, and I'll post their response. I imagine it will include the phrase "ship it to us"!

Sadly these issues happens after the warranty runs out.

You might try hitting the "audio" button on your remote and make sure that you select the Multi-channel track. Some sacds and dvds and blu-rays, for some odd reason, will first play the 2ch. track.
