Worth advising everyone that all tracks on this disc are from the mid-1950's and all but the Cello concerto are in Mono. Most of these performances have been issued and re-issued over the years on RBCD. The quality of the original tapes is only fair to middling so it raises the very serious question of why bother to record lo-fi material in the DSD hi-fi format when all you hear is how poor the source material is. It seems to me the existing RBCD recordings provide a sufficient digital archive of these historical performances for posterity.

These were early days for Emil Gilels in particular and he gives a bravura rendition of the most popular of the Saints-Saens Piano Concertos.

Does this have the 2nd mvt entry where he was a bit early?!

Another case where Praga is taking advantage of lapsed copyrights and credulous SACD fans. It's strange, given that some of their recordings have been so excellent, that they'd engage in chicanery like this. It casts a pall over their legitimate work.

It is strange. I don't doubt their sincerity in releasing material like this and would love to hear their take on the compelling (to them) reason for this release. Even the idea of the three catchy Saint-Saens Concerti on one disc is not new.

The Violin Concerti are a comparative rarity on SACD so' what we really, really want' are good modern hi-res versions by rising stars such as Vadim Gluzman or Arabelle Steinbacher; this is a direct challenge to Robert & Giel! Please start with VC No 3

Are you out there reading chaps?
