Discussion: 10cc: The Original Soundtrack

I'm new to the world of SACD and have a question about versions of this 10cc disc.

In addition to versions that specifically say "SACD-SHM," I've seen a listing (for a much more affordable one) that only said:

10CC-THE ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK +4-JAPAN SHM-CD D50

It only says SHM-CD. And doesn't specify that an SACD player is needed.

The only other detail: Release date November 9, 2011

Is this the same version? Or am I right in fearing it's not?

If it's not the SACD, is it still a big improvement over other versions?

Thanks.

SHM stands for Super High Material and the SHM-CD is not a SACD. It is an ordinary CD, or RBCD as it is sometimes called here. I have not heard either.

CDJapan says the SACD is out of print, so this is probably difficult to get. Unless the seller has it in stock he will not be able to fulfill the order.

Acoustic Sounds has it in stock.

Perhaps it will be reissued as a BD~A as it was a popular title. As an SHM~SACD, it sounded glorious.

Oh, thanks for the lead on Acoustic Sounds! Would anyone like to suggest any other resources? I've explored the Amazon links on every disc I'm interested in.

Do you all typically pay $60 and more for SACD discs? I've found some for less but this 10cc album and all the Queen albums I'd like are that much and more, as far as I can tell.

How am I supposed to buy the ESSENTIAL first 8 Queen albums (plus Flash Gordon) - at that price??!! :)

If it was available, CDJapan typically charges about $45 per SHM~SACD title plus shipping/handling. Most Amazon third party vendors and Acoustic Sounds/Music Direct charge $59. With CDJapan, bonus points are also accrued which sometimes cover s/h costs, as well (They were offering 10% bonus points on SHM~SACD titles until recently).

If you are interested in BD~Audio, then I would take a wait and see approach. The same titles might show up for $20 each (for instance, A Night At The Opera is forthcoming in 5.1 on BD~A).

I don't see this one coming on bluray. It's just not that popular.

There are still quite a few SHM~SACDs still available and this {10cc} is NOT one of them. Just surmising that since the authoring to hi res has already been accomplished that a transfer to BD~A would be "plausible."

I, personally, would prefer titles (like Supertramp, Bob Marley, etc.) that have never had a hi res transfer to be BD~A candidates....but that's ME!

Of course, I'm still pining for some newer millennium releases but it seems that Vinyl is the hi res solution for most newer titles.....and will be for some time to come.

Perusing the various auido mags, $15K cartridges (roughly 12.5 Oppo BDP~105s) and $60K step up transformers always brings a chuckle to my face.........what price GLORY?

CD Japan is the cheapest source for SHM-SACDs (select regular airmail shipping), when the disc is still available.
