If you are interested in flute music for small ensembles that's a little more esoteric, then these pieces for flute, viola, and harp are very good, too. The title of the first piece "And Then I Knew It was Wind" comes from a poem by Emily Dickinson. Takemitsu said "The theme of the work is the image of the soul that continuously blows through the human consciousness invisibly like the wind." It's for flute, viola and harp.

The 3 movement piece entitled "Toward the Sea III" is for alto flute and harp. The word "sea" from the title stand for the German "es" or E flat, "e" E natural, and "a" A. "Masque" is for 2 flutes. "Itinerant" and "Air" are for solo flute. Air was the last piece Takemitsu composed. In the works on this disk, Takemitsu makes full use of the flute's wide range of tonal color. His music is quite hypnotic.

The playing time is kind of short.. 47:23. But, it's a superb DSD recording. Stereo SACD and Multichannel SACD layers only. No CD layer. The booklet is in Japanese and English.

Just listened to the samples and bought it, used, for 6,89€, postage included at Amazon.de.

Wonder why it does'nt show in the price list.

Again, thanks for the tip.

Luke, the disc that can be found on Amazon.de only shows a CD logo on the back cover and has a different ASIN number than the SACD listed on Amazon.co.jp, so it's most likely a CD.

The SIGC-2 SACD is an early Sony single layer release, the initial CD version has the number SRCR2585.

He may also have bought the last SA-CD copy so now we can only find a CD product page.

Oh no!! I was hoping that Claude had gotten it wrong this time. But, it was nice of him to check and tell us about that so quickly! Is it too late to cancel that order?

I know Japanese SACDs are expensive. But, I was surprised to see the Takemitsu SACD was still in stock and under ¥3,000. I was thinking that with the weaker yen... it might seem more reasonable now. I should have recommended one that is easier to get. Sorry about that!

Brett, don't be sorry. It's intirely my own fault. I should have looked better.

Claude, indeed, there's no SACD logo on the image, shown on the Amazon.de website.
It was a while ago since I ordered a SACD and got a RBCD instead ( I sent the Popov symphony back, but never got a refund + after multiple mails and complaints even to Amazon.fr and their intervenience, absolute silence from the vendor Beaches France )

At a certain age it seems that you do not even learn from your mistakes anymore, haha. My eagerness to order it, carried me away.
Again, I/we must always be ware that cd's can exist in different ways, .... that's nothing new also. Perhaps that from now on, it will be burned into my brain? ;-)

And let's be honest, one can still enjoy a RBCD?
