Dear Xavier Gallet (from the review section)

I wrote the review after listening to the sacd twice. Since then I have not been able to play the sacd. The display says DVD, just like yours.
I can assure you that this is a one off since I have almost all the PentaTone releases and this is the first time I encountered this problem. You can buy PentaTone sacd´s feeling assured that they will play normally, but this one you should send back.

I have about 40 PentaTone SACDs and have never encountered this problem. I do not have this Saint Saens disc and it sounds like a production problem. I wonder what it would do on a different player?

Since having problems with my Sony DVP 9000 ES, I am a little suspicious of all SACD players and of Sonys in particular. I hope that no general reliablilty problems surface.

Dear Xavier,

We have so far not had any complaint like yours. Can you please try your SA-CD on another player? Every now and then we hear from a consumer that a certain SA-CD does not correctly play on his/her player and so far it always proved to be a problem that was unique for the specific player and did not occur on another player. So it proved not to be a defect of the disc. However if a disc would prove to be defective we are happy to replace it.

best,Pentaman

But I experienced the same problem with that disc and I have a different machine from Xavier.

Dear Pentaman

The Taneyev disc wouldn't play on a Linn Unidisk SC I had on loan and it transpired that there was nothing wrong with the disc, the player needed an upgrade to current specifications (as I remember). The player I bought is up to date and plays the disc perfectly.

All good wishes from Peter

dear pentaman on reading this thread I put on my copy, which I bought before xmas and hadnt played yet. Sure enough, it wouldnt play at all, on my Denon 2900. SO I played it on my b'friend's AV11 and it wouldn't play on that either, nor on a friend's Philips SACD player. That's three different models, two different manufacturers. Is it possible to return my copy to you for a replacement???? as I've completely forgotten who I bought it from in the pre-xmas chaos. And where do I send the dud copy?
Best wishes, Brenda
p.s. am loving this month's RQR release, the Brahms piano quartets, - delicous.

I played mine yesterday for the first time (stereo only) and had no problems with it at all. Actually I took it up to a friend's place on Saturday night but, what with one thing and another, we never got to hear it. He has just purchased the Sony SCD CE-595 multichannel carousel player so it would have given me the opportunity of hearing whether there was a problem with the multichannel layer.
I have the Martinon box set of all the symphonies on LP and I feel these Inbal performances, especially of the second symphony, compare well with those French ones. The recording of the second symphony is the better of the two as well, with the string tone in the first symphony sounding just a little 'glassy' at times. I'm certainly pleased I bought the disc and have always thought that the works were of interest.

WOW!!! What a company, - Pentatone have sent me an email asking me to send my SS copy back to them and they'll examine it and replace it. I didn't have to email them apart from posting my comments here (so I presume they've been in touch with the other forum users with the same problem). BRILLIANT service, thanks. B.

They are the best, no doubt about that.

Did you buy a Unidisk SC?
I had been tossing up whether to get one or the Marantz DV 9600, but Linn products are overpriced locally. Also for some reason, the Linn doesn't seem to have an HDMI output, at least the older version I saw.
