Here are a whole series of 4/5 star awards for Membrans. Where are the complaints that the sound is shrill that inundated a few short reviews that I wrote some time ago with similar ratings? Maybe everyone has had their equipment serviced.

raffels (who wrote all the Membran reviews you are referring to) writes that he finds the latest releases to sound much better than the earlier ones (which did not convince me either).

What confused me is his "As its an original PCM it gets 4.5 stars". Does it mean PCM recording cannot get top ratings?

Im putting the best ones first (there are a few more more gooduns) The poorer were mostly on the earlier batches...Wagner ( I have avoided the ones which others complained about or the performances are below par.
See my cynical comment re they seemed to have improved and at least got the stereo the right way around..
I dont remember you stating that the sound was shrill but I am aware that others who are almost obsessed with DSD recordings have made comments.

Incidently I HAVE modified the Denon 3910 quite considerably probably 200GBP worth of parts swapped.
Sometimes the shrillness is equipment related and IMO possibly disc quality related. As you do not state your equipment or previous listening experiences I cannot comment further except to say I will continue to judge each sacd on its merit against the 300 others I have..you may soon get a suprise if you purchase any of the latest batch and compare them with the earlier ones....Then it will be fair for you to comment...Not so?...
I will one day introduce a thread about so called house sound....and Telarcs will get a good mention....

Please note Claud my comments re number of discs Ive compared to (not just an early sampler as you did) or have you actually tried these early discs.(assuming you can get them with the stereo correctly channelled)
I am not the only one who has commented on the improvement.I am also not sure about your comment re trying to convince you of anything.Im playing these back at very realistic levels on high quality gear not headphones.

Answer to your second comment is obvious..You will see Ive given five stars to other Membrans..Sometimes the PCM is just noticable?..Please note .I also have the option of setting my playback as PCM at very high levels of quality like some of the most expensive playback units...on occasions this improves / changes the sound.Im more convinced of PCM...Like you I prefer analogue but not with the limitations and tape hiss..
