I wonder if Hurwitz listens in stereo or m-ch...or if he even has an SACD player.

Just ignore him, clearly has his own agenda.

I'm sure the answer is yes to both, I remember him commenting on MCH sound before.

Well he's certainly an opinionated son of a gun, but he's hardly the first person to complain about the sound of Mariinsky recordings, at least those done by Classic Sound.

I have this SACD and Hurwitz is right about the sound in the concerto. The piano is very far forward and the balance is wrong. I didn't enjoy these performances as much as Mr Hurwitz as I found them quite shallow. Virtuoso, yes but there are far more rewarding performances available of both works. At least on RBCD.

Production, editing and mastering done by Vladimir Ryabenko the usual Mariinsky engineer. Apparently no outside help.

This was of interest regarding the possibility of more Prokofiev from Gergiev.

The new release of Tchaikovsky Piano Concertos No.1 and 2 has very good sound. Yes, the piano is a bit forward, but it doesn't obscure the orchestra.

Exactly that Bill.

PC1 is a battle between the piano and the orchestra.
