With the recent, tragic death of actor/comedian Robin Williams, least we forget that the progenitor of comedy, Charlie Chaplin created the benchmark for comedy routines with his 1916~1917 Mutual 2 reelers...The Rink, 1 AM, the Immigrant, etc.

Lovingly restored with a choice of an orchestral/sound effects track and/or specially created piano accompaniment (albeit in Dolby Digital) all TWELVE Mutual 2 reelers have been lovingly restored and are available in a 2 BD~V/3 DVD steel casing box set (total: 5 discs) for the low price of $40 from Flicker Alley in California (with minimal shipping) unlike AmazonUS which is currently charging $54 for the set.

Wilhelm, this week was Criterion foreign film week for rammie adding both Y Tu Mama Tambien and Tie Me Up Tie Me Down to my burgeoning BD~V collection. And at half price from AmazonUS, veritable bargains since they come in lavish slipcases with copious liner notes.

Always enjoy your posts and photos. Dresses up the website quite a bit, IMHO!

For lovers of Broadway Musicals and angst ridden autobiographies, The Criterion BD~V release of ALL THAT JAZZ has been lovingly remastered with a superb 3.0 DTS Master Audio soundtrack and has been the best presentation since I saw it in a movie theater back in the 70's.

An interesting supplement is an interview which Tom Synder did with choreographers Agnes DeMille and Bob Fosse in January of 1980.

A top Broadway dancer appearing in Fosse's Dancing (Excellent) at the time would receive a salary of $1500 per week for 8 performances and lesser dancers received roughly $300 per week.

And as Agnes and Bob pointed out in the interview it was akin to playing pro football eight times a week as the injuries sustained were many and could in due course put a dancer out of work permanently.

Highest Recommendation for a masterful slice of Broadway via Fosse's brilliant direction and leading man Roy Scheider is equally brilliant as Joe Gideon........Fosse's doppelganger.
