I notice that someone who reviewed this said there was a manufacturer's defect with the SACD on this one. Any details please?

Alex, as I type these words, the AP SACD of Jazz Impressions of Black Orpheus is playing in the background.

I have NO issues with this SACD and since I own the remastered Fantasy RBCD, I can attest that the SACD, hands down, sounds infinitely better.

If you order this SACD from Acoustic Sounds I'm sure you'll have NO problems since, supposedly, the Sonopress defect has since been rectified.

Enjoy!

Thanks Ralph - I wonder what the Sonopress defect was that he was talking about?

That's why I would NOT order new or used from Amazon third party vendors and order direct from Acoustic Sounds:

Don't want to find out!

Just received Four MoFi SACDs from Music Direct. All say Made in the USA. Wonder why AP still has their SACDs pressed in Austria?

IMHO the DCC CD sounds much better than the AP SACD

As I am NOT in possession of the DCC RBCD, I can only guestimate that the quality of one's playback equipment would be the determining factor, Claude.

I played it today DSD out analalogue into my Parasound P7 pre~amp and it sounded fantastic....especially for a 1962 recording. The player was a Marantz SA11S2.

It's been OOP for years and therefore commands big bucks.

I respect Claude's findings but very rarely have I even heard a Gold RBCD (and I have many) sound better than an Analogue Production SACD.

As I surmised, Alex: depends on one's playback equipment.

I have a Sony 5400 and an OPPO BDP~105 and hands down, the Marantz (SA11S2 and S3: I Have both) better either the SONY/OPPO in SACD stereo playback.

Nothing to do with Gold CDs and SACDs actually. It's Doug Sax's mastering of some AP titles (or choice of tapes) which is subpar. The Guaraldi album especially is a difficult recording to deal with.

Thank you again, Claude, for your insight.

Played my AP SACD of Black Orpheus last night on my main system and it was both hum free and glitch free and the introductory bass instrument was both clear and fairly deep in bass so I suppose I have to 'content' myself with this version, rather than seek out the OOP DCC Gold RBCD remaster.

At the very least, it does sound superior to my Fantasy RBCD remaster.

I suppose when dealing with older master tapes, one has to expect the unexpected.

Your next assignment, Claude, should you accept it, is finding Malaysian Flight 370 in the vast expanse of the Indian Ocean! Talk about "Casting Your Fate To The Wind!" Indeed, a very sad state of affairs.
