Discussion: Bach: Violin Concertos - Hahn/Kahane

This "SACD-SHM" re-release, though I'm settled in a stereo setup and would gladly follow Hilary, has no urgency for me. Because I already own the older, cheaper, multichannel hybrid Bach: Violin Concertos - Hahn/Kahane

And because, I've not heard all of her albums, I'd rather spend the money on, say, the RBCD of 'Charles Ives: Four Sonatas' which was talked of when I re-watched http://vimeo.com/31234801 :
'Hilary Hahn: Collecting All the Pieces'
"Much is made in the music press of violinist Hilary Hahn's stunning technique, impeccable poise, and unshakable intonation. In that picture of perfection, however, one of her most striking character traits—her seemingly insatiable curiosity—can get a bit lost. Still, though she doesn't flaunt her boundary pushing with unusual concert dress or radical interpretive choices, she resolutely pursues her own interests with care and focus..."

Just saying, I, perhaps you too /support this site in broader...

Next time, I'll write my thoughts to the assembling of an 'entry-level' multichannel system for music...

Why would anyone buy that version when the multi-channel SACD is still available for $9-12?

Must be better as it is more expensive. As MCH is missing it is even more expensive per bit, must be something like 7 to 9 times better.

All of this may be true.
However, I used to know a very experienced musician who performed in these sessions as a member of the LACO. He felt she had little feeling for Bach style, overcorrecting against romantically indulgent performances of this repertoire. Apparently most of his fellow session musicians agreed, but they were hired to accompany, not offer their opinions to Hahn or her producers.

One only has to compare this disc with that of an even younger violinist from an earlier generation who recorded these works, Mutter. From what I recall of her EMI disc, there's a small but telling extra nuance and flexibility of phrasing in ASM's performances, particularly in her slow movements, against which Hahn can come across as brash and unyielding.
