Yes, I suppose that I should have made the title read: Why does anyone want 5.1 recordings for music, rather than 5.0?

Yes, I am not opposed to using a sub with bass-management but that does not make it 5.1 but, rather, 5.0 with bass rerouted to the subwoofer. The .1 in 5.1 implies that it is has unique content not found in the other channels.

Yes, subs and bass management are advantageous in many cases and, frankly, that makes it unnecessary to have 5.1 recordings for music.

Music, I'd quoted Polly Nomial in /showthread/111076/119778#119778 :
"I want this format to spread beyond an audiophile niche product into the mainstream for acoustic reproduction (this is slowly happening in classical music and hope that it continues to extend into other art forms soon). I do not want newcomers to the format and site to be put off diving into the most affordable hi-resolution medium there currently is before the consumer by purveying attitudes that if you can't have at least a BrandX player/amplifier/speakers then it's not worth the bother because I strongly believe that it is. Even the cheapest set-up repays vast dividends & as I believe in the laws of diminishing returns, this is the price point at which I think one might hear the biggest potential improvement between RBCD and SACD."

.1, available in many languages (English, Arabic, Chinese, Español, Français, and Russian), let's read the ITU's 'Appendix 1 to Annex 7 (informative) Usage of the low frequency effects channel (LFE)' http://www.itu.int/rec/R-REC-BS.775-3-201208-I

While I would 'normally' agree that with proper speaker placement and room treatments a system can sound wonderful.... since I had my main system professionally EQed by Meridian everything does sound MUCH better.

But thanks, Bobpaule, for the mini reviews of the German BD~As (although they were probably derived from stereo masters, at best)!

Yep, Meridian has their xxxx together tight on both hardware and format, pretty much all my DVD-Audios come from the UK.

Very amateur reviews but thanks, JazzLine.de is a label I will not be ignoring, them and 2L.no for sure.
