Remember, Astral: Music is an extravagance not a necessity.

How an individual wishes to spend their money is their business and like most business today (almost NONE are exempt), a discount is almost mandatory to either seal the deal or satisfy the consumer.

As always, Caveat Emptor!

There is a discount and then there is the five finger discount, which hurts everyone.

To people like you and I, music is a necessity.

To buy the set at the list price, even with the consumption tax and shipping is quite a challenging task for those who have no address in Japan.

For the second sentence, I would rather not elaborate further (like opening a can of worm).

The Karajan Rusticana and Pagliacci are exactly the recordings I have been talking about on other threads. These are the first full versions of these operas to be made available on SACD and, at the risk of being controversial, the best.

Can't comment on the quality of the other recordings and bow to the knowledge of others on the forum. Pity they are being released in a 2000 limited edition box set as I would have prefered to just purchase these two on their own.

As for the price - ~£30 a disc - expensive but this is average for Esoteric discs. I might just take the pain.

I come from a musical family, music producers as well as consumers. My grandfather and father played the accordion--and used to play to us in the crib. My mother played the piano. My brother and nephew play the guitar. My sister plays the keyboard, and my instrument is the flute. We write songs. We call one another and sing to each other over the phone. We talk music whenever we get together, watch films and TV shows about famous popular and classical musicians. We attend concerts of every kind whenever we can, and play different kinds of recorded music constantly. My interests are more in classical music, so I go to Ring cycles for vacation, but I have also heard Ten Years After and Bryan Adams live. The others are into rock and country, but my sister went to Tosca with me. For us, if not for everyone else, music is indispensable. We can't get enough of it. It is a hunger.
The 5 Great Operas just announced will satisfy my palate. Of course, I'd like to be able to pay a little less!

Apparently there have been some delays in production and delivery of the box set has been put back to late December.

How is shoplifting (five finger discount) relevant to Rammie's comment? Are you suggesting that Rammie shoplifts his music? :-)

You are the kid of guy who doesn't pay attention to a conversation others are having and then jumps in thinking he has something bright to add.

Read the thread, and figure it out for yourself, f you have a long enough attention span.
