Well, Ralph, she was home again last night. So tonight will get the proper listen to Crime for sure.

I did pop in and listened to a few tracks but there I wasn't settled and hard to really focus.

That said, I was hearing something, or I should say not hearing something that I have to get more focused tonight.

Mark, next time you need some "Alone" time to "Rock OUT," you should ship your wife and her girlfriends off to a "Magic Mike" Bar.

But, if she decides to run off with a "Magic Mike....." I accept NO responsibility.

Well I finally had a thorough listen, my review is up and there are great quality s and problems. If this is an iconic disc for you and you NEED the best version than this BD A is probably not for you. For me, I am not spending anymore and I am mostly satisfied with what I have.

It's sonic quality's are not jaw dropping that is for sure.

Unfortunately, Mark, IMHO, the BD~A launch from Universal has been a hit or miss proposition. It's not like they're giving them away for free and sometimes it does pay to await input from posters over at QQ and here before splurging.

Quality control has always been an issue as long as I've been collecting DVD~As and SACDs, stereo or multichannel. I have a few DVD~As with botched channels (Neil Young: Harvest, Cassandra Wilson: Travelling Miles and Crosby/Nash: Another Stoney Night) which were NEVER repressed....thus, I'm stuck with playing the stereo tracks when I initially bought them for their multichannel content.

Patience, my man. You don't always have to be the first one on the block to acquire a new release....even though I jumped the gun and pre~ordered all four of the upcoming Tangerine Dream SHM~SACDs (am certain they'll sell out quickly).

Hi Rammiepie,

'upcoming Tangerine Dream SHM~SACDs'

Can you tell me more about these please. I don't see on jpc or here. Thanks.

There is a discussion thread on the Tangerine Dream SACDs:

Hello Lads....Brand new to this site. Just got an email from amazon informing me of COTC remastered on Bluray, and before jumping into anything I thought I'd dig a little deeper for some reviews. I came across this site....Wow, you guys all seem very well informed, and with some great comments in your reviews. Hopefully I can add to the mix as I learn more.

After reading all of your reviews I think I might just stay with my old CD from AM+, although I'm hearing that the FLAC downloads are superior to the bluray.

Hi Jethro,
The Blu-ray version of Supertramp's "Crime of the Century" does seem to have a divergent set of opinions through posts and reviews on this site (as well as some other forums).

I recently received the Blu-ray and, in my opinion, the audio quality is absolutely outstanding. I have now listened to this disc 5 or 6 times.

I am very familiar with Crime of the Century and presently have the A&M Audiophile Series LP (1978); A&M+ Series CD (1990); and A&M Remaster (2002). I also had the MFSL Gold CD (1987) but it was a huge listening disappoint for me so I sold it.

I am now awaiting my order of the 2014 Deluxe version. After I receive this Deluxe set, I will be submitting a review of the Blu-ray with comparisons to some of these other versions.

With respect to these less than stellar opinions of the Blu-ray, they were ignored by me prior to listening to this version. My opinion should be no different if you disagree with it.

I have lived for so many years by the motto, "If it sounds good to you, it is good". It has never let me down.

Poster "Lost In The Music" just issued a Five Star review of the BD~A of Crime Of The Century today calling it somewhat revelatory.

The wildly mixed reactions to this release is, to say the least, perplexing.

So, what gives?

I have not read the whole thread, but my guess is that the new version is "different". As in, not what the brain is expecting, or is used to.

I do have Blu-Ray's that are very flat sounding. Flat as in just lay there, not flat in frequency response. So I would not discount the thought that this version is just a stinker. But I also remember other threads where the initial reports was "blah", and "meh", and then this changed as a lot of listening was done.

I am intrigued.

On a whim, I just ordered the BD~A of Crime Of The Century and will hear for myself whether it's a stinker or a glorious remaster. For about $20 brand new, it's not like I'm being taken to the cleaners.

Will report back as soon as I receive it.
