Just a tidbit from the history:

I have been stunned when I have been presented the video concerning Tangerine Dream, Jon Anderson, Ultravox and Hazel O'Connor from Munich 1982 only recently!

Tangerine Dream have been playing Sphinx..... live

Jon A. has sung two cuts from his Song of Seven Album perfectly

Ultravox has been doing their Vienna

absolutely wonderful performance

Why we cannot have this concert on BD-V or BD-A at least?

Yesterday I received Phaedra.
Wow! A beautifully detailed sound, which revives this classic album. Some parts have an astonishing effect on this DSD transfer as I have never heard them in this clarity on RBCD or an old needle drop I used to listen to at college (I never had the vinyl, a friend's friend was kind enough to give me a needle drop on cassette tape)
I cannot give a full review because I am recovering from a cold and my sinus infection may be affecting my hearing (the higher frequencies hurt my ears, so I haven't been listening to music for days but I could not prevent myself from spinning Phaedra when it arrived)

Szia Pal!

That's good to hear. Makes me feel a bit more confident with my pre-ordered "Stratosfear" and "Ricochet" SHM-SACDs. I don't think I've ever ordered any albums before where I've felt such doubt about whether I'm doing the right thing! It's weird! I bought the LPs way back in the mid/later 70s, and loved the music straight away. The only thing I didn't like was the poor quality LP pressings, which were dire in the extreme. I have a CD of both of these albums, both which I'm very happy with - so what do I hope to gain from the SACDs?

Szia Kutyatest :)
I'm looking forward to reviews of Ricochet and Sratosfear. Today I have been listening to RBCDs of Ricochet, Stratosfear, Encore and Sorcerer. All of these RBCDs sound great. Depending on reviews of the SQ of these new SHM-SACDs I might get one or two more titles. I definitely needed Phaedra on SACD because my RBCD of it (with a photo of the band on the front cover) is the odd release by the Dutch Disky label that has Phaedra, Rubycon Part 1 and the title track off Stratosfear. I do not know the mastering source of that disc, but the new SHM-SACD is a huge upgrade. I cannot compare it with the original Virgin RBCD issue because I don't have that one.

Received Tangerine Dream: Rubycon last Friday. Listened to it more than a dozen times this week-end.

For those about to receive it... prepare yourself, crank it up, shiver and be speechless : this is first class remaster. Very organic and hefty, and respectful towards the original work, compared to the horrible 2001 Virgin RBCD remaster I have -- the latter is very dynamic, but damn spoiled by the trebble EQ turned way up...

Tangerine Dream: Stratosfear is en route... I am really looking forward.

Wow - you must like Rubycon a lot!

That sounds promising.

My "Ricochet" and "Stratosfear" SACDs have despatched and are en route. I expect it'll be next weekend earliest that they'll arrive.

I used to own the original LPs of Rubycon and Phaedra (along with a load of other Tangerine Dream albums), but struggled to appreciate these two at the time. I wonder what I'd make of them now.

... keep them as a souvenir ;-)
Or sell them to some vinyl-passionated music lovers who would give them a nice second life.

Yes, I do love Rubycon a lot, but Stratosfear is my favorite. In fact their whole discography is on my shelves. I am a big fan, so when I learnt these were released, it made me jump sky-high. My only regret is they didn't release more albums -- but it's never too late for that. If these four sell out well, there might be more in the future - hopefully.

I got rid of my LP collection about 15 years ago. I was glad to see the back of it really, especially some of the Tangerine Dream albums. I loved the music, but Virgin was not a label well-known for quality pressings. I remember my "Ricochet" LP moving from side to side, and up and down! That was really annoying, especially as that is my all-time favourite.

Excellent news! Looks like I need that set after all. :)

Today our postman delivered Stratosfear.
I could hardly wait for work to be finished and sit down to listen to it. As I have previously mentioned, I like my first issue RBCD, it is a very good master - it presents a huge dynamic range and a very pleasant sound. So I was looking forward to seeing if it was worth rebuying it in SACD.
I am happy to say that it is. Listening to this new shm-sacd is like hearing the album on a very expensive high-end analog gear. Those electric piano sounds have so much more weight, the guitars are even more life-like, even the mellotron strings and flutes are so clear, which is a kind of paradox as the instrument itself is so low-fi :)
And the mini lp cover is gorgeous. It is 'mini' but still beautiful and brings back memories of the time when I had the vinyl LP with the G/F cover.
All in all, it is a great buy, I can wholeheartedly recommend anyone who likes early TD to get this sacd.
