Has anyone here heard this recording?

No but I can recommend Rachmaninov: Symphony No. 2, Vocalise No. 14 - Fischer for the Symphony and Rachmaninov: Complete Symphonies & Orchestral Works - Edo de Waart for the Caprice (the symphony is not conducted with Fischer's flair but all the works are in servicable, if not first choice, recordings).

Actually, I was thinking about getting the de Waart set to supplement Ashkenazy whose recordings with the Concertgebouw have that frisson I much admire, then found a reference to this one from, if my memory doesn't fail me, Vengerov's home town.

I picked up a free copy of the Audite SACD sampler recently in Vienna at (EMI Austria, yes EMI!)
It does contain the whole of the second movement. The recording is pretty good, clean and spacious, but on the basis of that one movement I would say the performance is cautious rather than exciting.
The de Waart set on Exton is IMO well worth having, particularly for the fill-ups. A wonderful Isle of the Dead and Symphonic Dances etc.

For Symphonic Dances, The RCO recording is the SACD to get. Much higher energy performance than the Exton, and incredible sounding. It may actually be the best SACD I own!
