I ve recintly bought Marantz ud 5007,he has pure direct1&pure direct2 button options...is sound better in pure direct?

Pure direct switches off all other circuitry that audio DACs does not need to employ. So the sound is virtually better.

Pure direct works thru Hdmi?

It has nothing to do with hdmi. Whenever you are going to use the audio circuitry solely, switch on Pure Direct mode to eliminate possible noise 'pollution' originating from other parts of the device.
I have a Marantz SR7001 AVR and according to the manual, when I stream DSD from my SACD player to the AVR and I switch Pure Direct mode on, it turns off the room correction/bass management circuitry as well, allowing the AVR to convert DSD directly to analog without the interim conversion to PCM

Ok,so for pure direct i must use analog out/in?

No. What I meant was Pure Direct mode has nothing to do with the type of in/out sockets. It means that if you turn Pure Direct mode on, the device will operate in the purest audio mode shutting off a number of curcuitry which are not needed for hearing the audio source 'exactly' as it is provided on the medium.

I checked the manual of your player and it indeed says that if you turn Pure Direct mode on, signal is not output through hdmi.
Pure Direct mode 1 switches off video circuitry, hdmi output and the device display.
Pure Direct Mode 2 is the same but leaves the display on.

That's bizarre.

If you insist on using "Pure Direct" mode, why wouldn't you use HDMI to get the most pristine signal possible? Perhaps you're misreading the manual.

After all, Denon AVR allows for HDMI use in "Pure Direct" mode. Marantz should as well, as they're both D&M Holdings brands.

Copy/paste from Page 26 of the manual (Marantz UD5007):
Pure Direct function
This enables you to play high quality audio by stopping the video and outputting the analog audio signal only.

Pure Direct 1
This turns off the HDMI output and display. And the FL OFF indicator lights red.

You need a better transport.

Get one that will allow use of "Pure Direct" mode via HDMI if that's what you want to do.

Sony BDP-S7200 is a good starting point for this. Forget Marantz players as they're all re-badged Funai machines.

Are you still in the return window for the Marantz?
