I picked this one up in my local bricks 'n' mortar today. Neither Tchaikovsky nor Prokjofiev belong to my favourite composers (far from it), but this is mighty impressive. Stunning sound. (But why has Myrios decided to swap DSD recording for PCM?)

I think certain locations in Berlin have PCM (Philharmonie is one) hard-wired into the studio. I presume that's the reason behind this change.

Still mesmerised by this disc (and, if it needs emphasising, the sound is simply astounding). For an article by Gerstein on the critical version of the Piano Concerto no. 1 see below link to the New York Review of Books (with musical excerpts to convince you of the differences between the old and new vs.):

So now we find out that the piano's block chords at the beginning of the work that we've known and loved for all these years are suddenly "bombastic" - Dang it! ;-)

The final cadenza seems to benefit from the earlier treatment, while the piano's arpeggiated chords in the first movement strike me as weak and in obvious imbalance with the musical rhetoric of the orchestral part. Very interesting comparisons in the NY Times piece. Thanks for posting the link.

well, Gerstein's recording is of course not a replacement of all those great recordings that exist, but it seems to me a very worthwhile addition, and the sound is second to none.
