Nice set of compositions here. I look forward to this one.

This survey of less familiar works from notable British composers is an inspired release, wisely recorded at Watford Town Hall rather than at The Barbican, the home of the Britten Sinfonia.

Unashamedly romantic and recorded to perfection, even in stereo this will tug at the heartstrings of all but the most hardened of critics - OK so I am a Brit but it has much wider appeal than that. Huge congratulations to Harmonia Mundi for producing what surely will be one of the outstanding recordings of 2015. The Britten Sinfonia play flawlessly and with more expression than one could ever hope to convey in words on a forum.

A must buy and a welcome change from the usual safe ground of core repertory that bedevils many labels these days.

I listened to the samples at AmazonUK and must concur....a truly exquisite recording. Just ordered a copy.

Thanks, hiredfox.

This truly is a wonderful disc, fine music glowingly performed and recorded. Speaking of the Barbican as Mr. Miller notes in his review Martinu: Viola music - Rysanov, Sitkovetsky, Apekisheva, Belohlávek demonstrates that it is possible to produce an excellent orchestral recording in that hall (the concerto recorded in glorious 24/48 pcm, no less, proving, once again, that the skill of the recording/production team counts for more than the bits and bytes).

Can anyone tell me whether this comes in a digipak? I've had so much trouble with Harmonia Mundi's digipaks in the past (more often than not they arrive damaged) that I've become reluctant to buy more discs from the label.

Nope. Mine came in an ordinary jewel case with a paper wrap around it.

Thanks for that, and for the review.
