I've been using a Sony 777ES player for years and Iam in the process of looking for a new player that is a full step up in sound that cost about $2,000 or less. Any suggestions anybody ?

Although it may be out of your maximum price range of $2K (or less), I would heartily recommend the Marantz SA11S3 player which I bought (open box) from Music Direct for approximately $2600.

It, too, is built like a tank and has operated flawlessly for over 3 years.

The only other alternative would be Esoterics which are much more pricey or as a last resort (but hardly non~competitive) the OPPO BDP~105D which has balanced stereo outputs, upgraded analogue outputs and will literally play almost anything you throw at it.

I play my mch SACDs through the OPPO but find that all stereo SACDs sound fuller/richer via the Marantz.

A tough decision.

Music Direct sometimes has deals on the Marantz SA11S3 (Open Box, Demos, etc) but they do discount on list prices, as well. List price is now $4K but when I bought it, the list was less. Ouch!

Don't know if you saw my post, but I have come across a Shanling SCD-T200 through an estate transfer. I do not know much about the tech, but if you search you will find that it is well reviewed. I'm in the process of pricing it and putting it on Audiogon. Please let me know if you are interested (I can be reached directly by email).
