Shortly this site will be upgraded with a new, more modern, look and some additional features. Other sections of the site will be retired. The aim is to reaffirm the focus of the site (namely Super Audio CD and Blu-ray Audio) and make more accessible the richness of offerings on these formats. While it's our responsibility to ensure the listings are comprehensive and accurate it's really the reviews, related discussion and recommendations that are most important. It is hoped that many here will continue to support these formats with their reviews etc.

I have been doing the upgrade as a form of public beta and nobody has reported any issues with the pages done so far so I'm assuming we'll meet again on the other side. There will be a period of transition as loose ends are tidied up and any reported issues are addressed. I will be checking this forum for a period after the switch for reports of any issues.

The plan is as follows:

1. The first change is a new site home page. All the new pages will be accessible from the menu on this page.

2. After a short time there will be redirects from the old pages to the new equivalents so Google etc searches land on the new pages.

3. The third phase is an update to the database character set, for which I'll have to take the whole site down for a short period. If you arrive during this switch there'll be a notice to come back later.

As previously noted, this forum isn't being carried forward. It will however be retained, at least until the database upgrade, but won't be accessible from the new menu. If you have an interest in still using it I suggest you bookmark the following:

www.sa-cd.net/forum.php

Content related posts will however continue, under their new guise as Discussion.

I don't have a schedule for any of the above. The changes will occur when they're ready.

See you on the other side!

Sad to hear about the termination this forum.

The decision to put an end to all talking conforms to the spirit of our times: less discussion and debate, more sales; or, if you want to go to the very bottom of the issue, the less there is information and reflection, the more effective becomes manipulation, as we can see from all over the place these days.

I'm out with the discussion part. Purchases I can handle elsewhere.

Well bye bye then everybody here who is interested in music in good performances and high quality recordings. And see SACD and Bluray mainly as things of the past. But thanks a lot for all the interesting discussions and advice on music and recordings to buy from many of you here!
I have a couple of hundred SACDs and a handful of Blurays that I have been given. I will probably never actually buy one.
I don't own a bluray player
That "the God here on his hill" is in it for the money has been more than obvious for a long time.
I suppose he couldn't squeeze enough money from download sites advertising here.
Hence they stopped doing so,or never even bothered.
Too bad because that is where the future lies. For some reason the film title "The Gods are crazy" leaps to mind. TALKING ABOUT GOOD MUSIC, I picked up Ingrid Haebler's Philips recording of Mozart's K 453 and K 537 at a thrift shop on LP for 50cents € yesterday. Very nice and absolutely free of HIP in good rich warm and full analogue sound.
For me it is all about the music.
Delivery format comes second.
Cheerio almighty Zeus and thanks for all the fish.
Oops you do mean Downgrade, not upgrade don't you?

In my humble opinion, the heart and soul of SA~CD.net has always been the forum where like and sometimes disimilar minds discussed music and a variety of useful topics.

To maintain it as an afterthought, inaccessible from the main menu, is a grave mistake.

If posters want lists of endless titles and not much else, there are other sites that can be similarly accomodating.

Zeus, I would rethink your strategy concerning this move as SA~CD.net has ALWAYS been a plethora of useful information concerning new products and technologies, etc. and stripping away the ability to enact such discussions would be anathema to silencing those valuable diatribes....forever.

SA~CD.net has always been a family affair. And may it continue in this vein.

I'll have to say that, each time I was visiting SA-CD.net, it was mostly for the forum. Sure, also info on SACDs is very good, but the main attraction was a certain warmth I used to feel while reading the discussions. It was/is something special to see that I am around folks who share the same passion with me, and to be able to follow their discussions/opinions, and maybe contribute sometimes. This place has a certain unique character.

Please keep the forum alive, if possible.

As I read Stephen's update he's saying that there will still be a discussion section which will allow forum-like exchanges of views and information but we will lose the ability to revive an old thread with a new post five years after the last one like someone recently did re: the Eschenbach Saint Saens 3rd, or, and to my mind this is a loss, to access the content of long running threads like the BIS thread. In short, while I would prefer to keep things as they are, it doesn't seem to me that this is the calamity some are claiming and certainly doesn't justify the vituperative tone of some of the responses.

+1 Rammie. Stephen is being foolish here, but then he never liked people going at it on his forums. He wants his site to be more like an online professional site like a Gramophone or some such where the professionals out there can say "SA-CD.net's reviews said this or that about a disc." Bunch of bunk.

Yep, as well as being a resource (with links to vendors), sa-cd.net IS a community and one I feel glad to be a part of.

No, but I think people are reacting to the control-freakery implicit in the decision.

From now on, I expect I will rely on labels' newsletters for information on new releases.
