Hi folks,

I am going to buy a second hand sacd player the Yamaha CD-S2000. The unit is from 2013 with very little use, but without warranty. Do you think it would be a great idea as a final disc spinner?
Specs:

This model is discontinued already. Does our sacd community knows any flaws with this particular model (laser, mech, etc)?

Any inputs are welcome

Regards

Not aware of any typical flaws with the CD-S2000, but would saving up for the replacement model CD-S2100 be an option?

It has a proprietary (Yamaha-designed and made) drive mech and metal tray which spell durability -- the same stuff as in their cost-no-object CD-S3000 flagship model (basically just the power supply differs a bit between the two models, if I understood it correctly).

And the sound quality has been universally praised by everyone listening, it seems. The model is completely redone vs. the S2000. Plus you can use it as an external high-quality DAC only, if streaming and downloading suddenly becomes your thing.

It is second-hand player of the CD-S2000, there is no option to choose the 2100. Are the two mechs are different in between the 2000 and 2100?

Yes, it's a totally different design. It uses most of the technology developed for the flagship CD-S3000 model (incl. the Yamaha-developed mech and tray/drawer) and is in no way anything like an updated version of the 2000 model. This despite the confusing relatedness of the model name and the looks between the two (2000 and 2100).

Even sonically the two models seem to be very different, with, on the other hand, the 2100 and the 3000 being very similar to each other (I have not yet been able to listen to either of those, but this based on extensive Internet research). The 2100 and the 3000 appear to take Yamaha SACD sound quality to a wholly new level in the general opinion out there.

Check the link I provided and google around; all the details should be there somewhere.

I did not mean you could choose one over the other from your particular seller, but that you would skip the 2000 and save up for the 2100. That is what I, too, am currently doing (I need a second SACD-capable player that is high quality, durable, and reliable, as long as they are still available for a decent price in this world, and the 2100 seems to fit the bill, especially as I also want it to be able to have file playback and streaming capability for future -- I don't do any of that now but at some point my son might).

Sometimes factory refurbished units (of both 2100 and 3000) turn up on eBay and Amazon, although I have no idea what the price difference might be even in those cases, compared to your second-hand 2000.

Good luck and greetings to the land of our cousins,

PT

I've had a 2100 for about a year and love it. I think it is a big upgrade over the 2000.

It is understood that the 2100 is a better machine than the 2000. But a 2000 came up in my periscope and I am waiting for a long time already for a good player at a reasonable price. The chance is that a 2100 will come up second hand is unfortunately low.

BTW I found the hearth of the player which is the PCM-1792 DAC chip. Does the machine uses the chip in direct DSD->analogue conversion or it does the DSD->PCM->analogue stuff?

Thanks
