........In that case I'd rather do another "Bach Organ" on single layer SACD:s, but the Organ experience hasn't exactly been conducive to taking this decision. I have a feeling that very few persons know about the Fagius Organ Box - for sure we have had ZERO feedback from Joe Public!!

Best - Robert

I'm really surprised to hear the Bach hasn't sold well; you've probably seen I already have this set and recommend it highly. Excellent performances and recordings at a no-brainer price.

Another idea on the Bach Cantatas. I notice your Handel duets SACD was subsidised in the memory of a person. Maestro Suzuki should be able to find 27 music-loving recently deceased Japanese Christians whose families might want them to be memorialised in the SACD series.
You could also print the names of the subscribers in the booklet, as you did for the Handel SACD.

If BIS were to rerelease the first 27 volumes of the BCJ recordings in Stereo SACD Hybrids, HOW MANY of you would run to the shops?

Count me in for sure as well!

I've immensely enjoyed the volumes issued on SACD so far, and they serve as a welcome contrast to the two other cantata cycles being issued on SACD currently (Eric Milnes/Montréal Baroque on ATMA and Sigiswald Kuijken/La Petite Bande on Accent), both of which are great but OVPP, which certainly isn't always my preference.

Whatever I'd choose to leave out (and that would be 75% of the contents of the high-density layer) every buyer would holler like crazy because I left out.

I guess it depends on how you price it and whether those purchasing it for just the CD layer perceive value. Having additional recordings on the discs would be a great teaser and may encourage some to move up to an SA-CD player. This would in turn help in sales of other SA-CD titles from your catalogue. Single layer discs are "difficult" at this time.

Exactly my feelings. But the reality is that we have sold a few hundred sets and that doesn't really speak for continuing this use of storage capacity. Zeus says later on that single-layers are "difficult". I wonder why!!

Dear Seth,

you missed the point. It wasn't on SALE for 30 bucks, that's its regular price: 5 single layer Stereo SACD:s at the price of 2 CD:s!!
This is impossible to do with Sibelius, if you wonder why, please ask Harry Fox, the US Copyright Society. The Mozart and even more Brautigam's 15 Haydn Complete CD:s could be an idea - I'll kick it around a while. But we have an enormous treasure of collections of non-copyrighted material that would lend itself to the single-layer Stereo SACD idea that we commercialized as the first company: Giuliani's Complete Music for flute and guitar, Gade's Complete Symphonies, the Mozart and Haydn Complete Piano music, Cherubini's Complete String 4ets, Mozart's Complete string 5ets, the S:t Matthew Passion....

If only the interest had been more noticeable...

Robert

Why doesn't anyone take advantage of the length of single layer SACD to give us stereo versions (perhaps from classic performances) of whole mahler symphonies (ie nos 2, 3, 6) and unbroken opera acts?

Seems like an obvious thing, for those that can live without multichannel.

To answer this, one needs to consider who owns the mastertapes of the "classic" performances and they are the usual suspects of Universal & EMI predominantly. Neither of these organisations supports SACD, so this is why you won't (currently) get your wish for many of the greats of the past. Pentatone have managed to release Haitink's Mahler 8 on a single SACD (including a MCH layer) and are due to follow with Mahler 5. I believe there are plans afoot for the odd opera release as well...
