Perhaps Robert (Bissie) can chime in on this - are the Suites extracted from the complete Peer Gynt, or is this recording something new, and different in some way from the complete?

The two Peer Gynt suites and the music to Ibsens play are separate opus from Grieg. The suites are for orchestra while the music to the play also incorporates solo voices and chorus. So there is a significant difference. They better be differently recorded too…

It’s worth noticing that the sequence of events occurring in Ibsens play is not reflected in the suites!

Well, Tommy almost answered it.
These Peer Gynt Suites are different from the ones in the Complete PG, separately recorded much later, and I am very proud of the result.

Best - Robert

Darn - being the completist that I am, I'm now going to have to buy this!

Thanks to Tommy and Robert.

Just a note to say i agree entirely with wehrecht's review. I didnt buy this, my partner did, and he's already left a rave revieww on amazon. When I heard this when he came down for the weekend last week, i was blown away. Sound is superb and performances equally so, and like paul, i found myself loving the suites all over again. Buy this!!! B

I must concur. The BIS Grieg SACDs are excellent in sound and performance.

I've planned to buy the Grieg CD in a web store, but by chance I found it along with some other SACDs in a brick and mortar store. Most stores in my town do not sell SACD, so I bought a few.

The CD is very nice and enjoyable.
