I know there are many of you that are frustrated by the lack of replacement super jewel boxes with the old hinge style. I would really love some replacement cases, and it looks like the only way I can get this done is to have them made. I am researching the feasibility of having molds made for a small production run of super jewel boxes, but obviously this will be cost prohibitive for just myself.

So I am thinking of having a run of a few thousand made (this may still be cost prohibitive, I am still researching) My question is are you interested in replacement cases, and if so, how much would you be willing to pay per jewel case.

Why do you prefer the older style. The newer style was designed to have a stronger hinge and a better holder for the front display.

Both new and older style breaks very easily if dropped to the floor, however, digipacks fares better.

So when a jewel case breaks I just buy a few the cheapest ones I can buy locally as it makes little sense to me to order them due to high transport costs.

You can find the classic Super Jewel Box cases on eBay, but the seller doesn't ship outside Europe.

I doubt you'd need to go that far. Have a look at http://www.superjewelbox.com/ -- the company that licenses the design and owns the moulds (for all versions -- tall, medium and regular size, surely including the old as well as the new hinge type).

As you'll see if you click on 'contact' they're represented in all major markets.

Because if you put an SACD designed for the old smaller hinge style in the new bigger hinge case you will loose some of the printing on the spine. You have to very carefully use scissors to cut out the part of the spine and back insert that will not fit in the new design. You loose for example the first few letters of the composer’s name and the last couple of numbers couple of numbers of the catalog number.

I too am looking for the small hinged cases to replace cracked cases for SACDs designed for the older style.

I believe the front display is the same for both hinge styles, it's only the spine area that is adversely effected by the redesign. Why did they change the design? I notice NO functional difference between the two and IMHO the smaller rounded hinge is much prettier than the larger rounded hinge. That is the way of the capitalist world, they are always fixing something that is not broke!

I would pay $2.00 each for new replacement Super Jewel cases using the older style smaller rounded hinge.

NOT ALL the spines have full length printing.
Personally I would think a little bit of lateral thinking could solve the problem..ie The items that dont use full length spinal printing (ie most Membrans) can be transferred into the newer stronger big hinged ones and cut and you can then use the older style ones for replacement.
I noticed that the Capriccio box set of Shosty Symphonies has mixed cases.
The new style front cover is held by clips on the sides and their is a stronger spine connecting these/It was redisigned I pressume because the first type broke easily, hence the reason you are looking for replacements?..

Any type break easily when dropped to the floor, so when that happens I use a standard CD jewel case, and if needed, a scissor. A case of expensive products wrapped in a substandard packaging.

Digipacks are much more abuse resistant.

It has nothing to do with how difficult they are to break. The fact that they easily break is why there is a need for replacement cases. The new style with the larger hinge (as sold by superjewelbox) are not a direct fit for the older inserts. Apparently I am in the minority as far as being bothered by the lack of the old style hinge.
