As I wrote in my review of this SACD, I was disappointed by the sound, and I thought it was the tapes that were in poor condition.

Today, I listened to the Acoustic Sounds 45rpm 2LP set of this album, mastered by Steve Hoffman. It's a night and day difference, the LP sounds very lifelike, with lots of treble detail where the SACD just sounds muddy.

It's sad that the Fantasy engineers can't manage to make their tapes sound as Steve Hoffman can. I would really prefer not to have to spend 50 Euro on an LP to hear this album in a quality that comes close to the sound on the tapes.

Okay, I just bought this for around 35 dollars or so. My question is, what correlation with reality do the prices listed here have to with what this disc is worth. This is really starting to be a turn off. The greed is just oozing out of sellers. Frankly, I find it hard to believe that they are actually music lovers. Not only are they delusional, but they really do harm to our admittedly eclectic hobby. Yuck!

You must mean the 45 rpm mastered by KEVIN GRAY & Steve Hoffman. Notice how Kevin's name is first as it should be.

And I agree the SACD sounds like crap.

Rant Rant. If you don't like, why don't you just sell it, and let someone else who wants it enjoy it.

I'm sure you can get your $35 back, given that the cheapest price for a used copy on Amazon at the moment is 4 times that. But given your views on the subject, I suppose you should probably list it for no more than $10.

I guess you liked it.

On the Amazon.de Marketplace, there is one listed for 6.850.001 Euro. That says it all.

I can't remember :) I'm going to find it, and give it a spin ...

What makes you think I don't like it? You obviously missed my point - if anything's worth ranting about in this hobby, it's this kind of price gouging crap. I stand by what I said. And I'm not cheap - I'll pay for something if it's reasonably priced. And, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, maybe I wasn't clear in my post: 35 dollars is fair enough - I was talking about the three-figure prices listed on the link to the review. Those asinine figures are listed for tons of SACDs - I frankly don't understand why the prices are even listed here since they can't be taken seriously, as they're just pulled out of thin air. Those kinds of ridiculous listings certainly don't do anyone any good and are a waste of website space. Fair is fair, and these vultures merit getting the attention they deserve. Sheesh.

Who said a penny black should be any 'better' than a penny red? The black one now costs vastly more ... though I suspect they both did just as good a job of getting a letter through the mail. Harrumph harrumph. And what of those evil stamp collectors, who now demand $$$$$ for the black one. IT'S JUST A DIRTY PIECE OF PAPER. Outrageous.

Oh please. A penny black is unique for Pete's sake. You know exactly what I'm talking about - these are made up prices - no one is paying anything near them, say for this SACD or most of the others listed here, I'm sure. But I guess someone has to be the devil's advocate ...
