Great excitement here as we prepare to hear Yevgeny Sudbin in concert at the Concertgebouw on Saturday evening. Support from the Netherlands Philharmonic. Can't wait.

In case anybody was reading this thread, Sudbin's "Emperor" was indeed Imperious, how he has improved over his few short years. Not a sign of stress or being on the edge just an enigmatic smile and a nod or two to Bolton otherwise a completely sublime and unruffled performance, a young man very much in at ease with the master and himself. You can here a recording of the event on the Concertgebouw website (notRCO)

Oh dear! the site link appears not to be active here in UK - licensing issues? - so I just e-mailed the Concertgebouw to ask for a link to the recording that can be used internationally. I'll post when received.

So apparently there is an upcoming Bis release of the Shostakovich 3 & 4 Quartets as Chamber Orchestra pieces. I like the orchestral realizations of string quartets. I wonder how many total of his quartet cycle have been orchestrated in this way?

To the best of my knowledge 5

String 4et 1,3,4,8,10

That release also includes some Russion (sic!) Klezmer Music...BIS-2227 SACD

I have heard recordings of 8 & 10, this one sounds like a keeper.

Robert I wish you could do something about distribution to the US. None of your Fall releases including the Sibelius set seem to have an on-sale date yet.

I'm just wondering: "The Sound of Sibelius" (BIS-SACD-1645) contains some original 5.0 surround sound recordings which have been remixed for the present release. Are there any other that kind of recordings? It would be nice to know. By the way the mentioned SACD is very impressive in all ways: the remixed surround sound is wide and clear - thanks to the DSD (Direct Stream Digital) transferring.
