I have been reading some of the postings, of which most are speaking greek to me, and want to let you know that I am very new to the Multi-Channel world. First of all, I love the sound of movies now and I am seriously looking forward to the SACD experience (currently don't have a receiver with 5.1 inputs)!

Forgive my lo-fi system, but I am looking for some recommendations. I currently have a Sony DVP-NC685V DVD/SACD player with Bose 301 speakers in the front, Bose 201 surrounds, Bose VCS 10 center, and a very inexpensive MTX sub. I have done some receiver research and am interested in Onkyo's TX-SR601 & TX-SR 701. Being new to the audiophile world, I am not really looking at spending more than $1000 for an A/V receiver, but would like something that would provide the best function and sound for both movies and SACD's. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Check out the Denon's - they have quite a lot of functionality, including analog pass through which you absolutely need for SACD, otherwise you get down converted to RBCD. I have the 4802 in my second system. Besides the large number of functions and the ability for pure analog it also has a nice liquid sound, unusual for an integrated received. While the 4802 was over your price point, Denon has others in the line with less power/lower price.

What I would really recommend is that you get a hold of a whiz-bang multi-channel SACD such as the Kodo/Mickey Hart album "Mondo Head" and then find a dealer that can demo a quality surround system. "Being new to the audiophile world," you're still setting your budget with what some folks naively call "common sense."

Failing that, Denon is a pretty safe bet.

Just want to say thanx. I was able to get a Denon AVR-3803 for about $700 on an auction site. I must say LOVIN' IT. I know I'm probably not qualified to write any reviews but I got the Elton John-Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, The Police-Every Breath You Take, and Tchaikovsky 1812 and thought I may break some windows in the family room. Once again...Thank you!
