After 6 mos. of use my unit stopped playing any discs. Would not read or recognize CDs or SACDs. Sony had me send it to LAREDO TX. I got the unit back and it would read and play only CDs. Next day unit is back to where it was; will not read or play SACDs or CDs! Called LAREDO TX. service center and they were very nice and told me to send it back.

Question: My problems with this unit appears not to be unique, other forums have many complaints on this Sony product and similar types. What gives? My unit is only 6 M0's old and was bought brand new. I noticed that these problems go back to at least 2003 on this model. You would think with so many bad units that Sony would come up with a good fix. LAREDO TX. service center has appearently worked on many of these units, all having basically the same problem. You would think they would fix correctly the first time. Appearently others have had repairs done only to have the unit start up it's problems again.

Can anybody shine a little light on all of this?

Thanks.

I cannot shed any light on this particular problem but can say that I have had my Sony SCD-XA9000ES player for over three years now - during that time I have observed some very occasional problems playing SACDs and CDs. Of over 400 SACDs it refuses to recognise 3 of them as SACDs and only plays the CD layer.

With about 3 or 4 CDs, from over 1000, I have found distortion or pausing to occur at a particular point - the propoprtion maybe more because, obviously, I have not listened to all the 1000 CDs in the last 3 years.

In general, there is something not quite perfect about the ability of SACD players to read all discs reliably. When CD players first came out we had similar problems which were resolved over three or four years as later models came out, unfortunately with SACD players the market place is not so large and so there is less economic force to resolve these issues.

Maybe you have been very unlucky, hopefully LAREDO TX will sort it out properly this time. The Sony player is very, very good despite its glitches.

My experience is similar. Very occasionally I have a problem. Mostly it is unmitigated pleasure.

Thanks for your reply. I hope they get it fixed this time also.
