The Firestone Christmas albums. Seriously.

I don't think they'd sound right without the tics and pops from piling them up on the old record changer :-)

I'd agree with those Firestone Christmas LPs. I did manage to get them transferred to CD, so I do have the pops and clicks (and a skip in Gordon MacRae's "Go Tell it on the Mountain").

The 2nd disc always had, for me, the ultimate Akron recording: "The Hal - lay - loo - yuh Chorus". Why this Ohio twang pronunciation was never corrected has always astounded me.

But Irwin Kostal's arrangements are what made those LPs so priceless. And I'd love to hear those arrangements as close to as recorded as possible.

Prince Hits 1 and 2. Would be awesome in stereo, but in MCH, with all those layered instruments, would, I assert, be the best pop rock SACD of all time. The mini marvel would have to produce it of course.

Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 5 (1959) and Capriccio Italien (1958) with Szell/Cleveland. Please oh please!

Resurrecting this thread, I noticed "Eye In the Sky" by Alan Parsons Project never saw the light under the SA-CD format - or any HD format for that matters, except a highly criticized DVD-A that came out years ago before quickly falling into the oblivion of OOP fatalism.

Now, isn't there anything in the pipes, or anything I eventually missed ? Ralph, Marc, I'm pretty sure you would love to see this album in HD, and you're the pros of research and bargain-hunting. If you know about something, please share, thanks in advance.

I would hate never having this in HD whereas all RBCD editions are bad - so I was told.

It seems you are correct - in fact, as best as I'm aware, Alan Parsons Project has only had three albums released on a HD format - those being "I Robot", "Eye in the Sky" and "The Turn of a Friendly Card".

All of these were released on DVD-A, dual-sided with 2-channel audio only.

I own all three of the above, and in general terms, the audio quality is extremely impressive. It's just that with "Eye in the Sky", I have noticed some oddities audio-wise on several tracks. Almost like tape stretch distortion and the odd pop - which I have concluded (as I've found no other explanation), that these "faults" were present on the original master tapes - and that listeners have perhaps not noticed this on other less demanding formats, e.g LP and CDs.

I'm not aware of anything in the pipeline with more Alan Parsons Project hi-res releases, but they are all prime candidates for SACD multi-channel audio for sure.

I Robot and Turn of a Friendly Card are both available as DSD Stereo Downloads over on Super Hi Rez.

Thanks for the information, Brian.

Interesting that these albums have only been released in 2-channel audio. I have no interest in downloads, however, but each to their own.

For me it would be

Mark Isham - Castalia
Chris Botti - first 4 albums
Jon Hassell - those 2 albums made together with Brian Eno and Surgeon of the Nightsky (although it is recorded live and exist as stereo only)

Pierre Favre - Window Steps

Rick Wakeman - Criminal Record

Jon Anderson Songs of Seven

Anderson Bruford Howe and Wakeman studio & live albums

Jan Garbarek Twelve Moons

Earthworks - first 3 albums

Rush - Grace under Pressure & Power Windows

Marillion - all studio recordings with Fish

Duran Duran & Arcadia 1981-1986

Orchestral Manoeuveres in the Dark 1980 - 1986

New Order (1981-1989) cause those double sets from 2008 are heavily compressed and with lots of errors

I would like to see Tomita's "Bermuda Triangle" released on to SACD. Kraftwerk "Autobahn" (There was a quad mix of this back when the LP was first released. Anything by Faithless, New Musik, Jean Michel Jarre. All released onto either SACD or Blu-Ray Audio (Multiaudio of course).
