I will answer your sorry attempt at humor with an actual conversation between my wife and myself. I am retired but my (still beautiful) wife is 14 yrs younger than I. She is saving vacation time so we can take another Swiss Alps and Verbier Music Festival Trip. But last April, when I asked her if she wanted to take two days off and make a long weekend of it by attending Fischer's Brahms performance with the NY Philharmonic then traveling the next day up to Boston for our regular series concerts, she said: "I need to save my vacation time, but Julia Fischer is SO extrordinary that I just cannot resist!". So yep, she knows all about Julia!

She is at least as avid a fan as I :) .....AND she is taking another two days off to hear JF with Temirkanov and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Oct 30 in Carnegie Hall.

I think Temirkanov is a much better partner for Fischer than was Eschenbach last spring. The Beethoven I heard in Baltimore in 2006 stood head and shoulders above the one I heard in Philadelphia late last April - which you also attended right?

I know this aint funny either Bruce but it seems nearly ever posting you make has Julia mentioned. Its no use snarling at anyone who comments on it and for your own sake be carefull about your reply to this.
Its good to see you talk to your wife, hopefully better than those on this site.
Wouldnt you like to see some new not previously recorded in sacd works and new artists who might be as interesting as her or anyone enhancing the list of sacds whch may tempt others to purchase items or are you stuck in a timewarp.

I really wasn't meaning to snarl. The unfortunate thing about the printed word is that it doesn't convey someone's smile when they write in a mode of overstatement, meaning to inject a little humor into the thread. I was certain that Seth was smiling when he asked if my wife knew about Julia, and my reponse might have been OK had we been sitting face to face in a restaurant, for he would have seen no hint of a snarl in my face or voice - only a small smile. Of course that was not the case with the posting, so I have been, as I think many here are, guilty on occasion, of trying to be subtly funny but coming off as angry instead.

So, Seth, if perchance you interpreted what I wrote as my being annoyed, my apologies, I was only trying to carry forth the same nature of the banter you began in my own words! Perhaps banter is a dangerous game on a web forum and should only be indulged in by the most skillful of word-smiths!

As to your other questions Dave, regarding "new artists who might be as interesting as her" Of course, but in this thread, one must rely on what one has already heard, or at least heard about. There is a Canadian violinist I would love to hear on SACD - but I am so out of tune with the rbcd world (and this guy has yet to make it to Boston or even New York that I am aware of) But I remember hearing on the radio a superb performance of Dvorak's Sonatina and thought I would love to hear this in a multi-channel SACD. As I write, the name seems to be coming closer to the tip of my tongue,.....AHH I think it is James Ehnes!

Regarding music, actually I would like a program in multi-channel SACD with say, Levine and the BSO of music by William Schuman.

And while we are at it here, some more Charles Fussel from Albany Records.

Speaking of violonists, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg can be a pure genius sometimes. And her rich sound must be something on SACD. I haven't heard her live and don't know how she plays now. But the combination of emotion and mastership I've heard in some recordings is for me above most violonists I've heard.

YO ! - I have been rather preoccupied with stringed instruments to the exclusion of the Piano lately and I must say that I would like a lot more Beethoven by Igor Tchetuev He is magnificent!

Then there is the matter of the Prokofiev Symphonies - we now have #5, lets hope we can get Jurowski and the RNO to do at least #6 and #7 if not all of them. Oh what a boon that would be!

Hi everyone,

I'm new to SA-CD.net as well as the world of SA-CD (I purchased a few titles, but haven't purchased my multi-format player/receiver/speakers yet, however I'm almost certain I'm buying an OPPO DV-980H this week for starters) and as I read reviews of SA-CD's and scan the lists of which 'classics' have been released, I was thinking "wouldn't it be great if they had ..." on SA-CD?

Here's my top 3 to start the ball rolling ...

#1 Joni Mitchell - Hejira (1976)
#2 Jean-Luc Ponty - Enigmatic Ocean (1977)
#3 Mylo - Destroy Rock & Roll (2006)

Now it's your turn!

Cheers,
Dan

All albums from the following:
Elvis Costello
XTC
Beatles
Led Zepplin
Pink Floyd
The Jam
Dire Straits
Emerson, Lake and Palmer

I know it will never happen, due to their less than popular world wide appeal, there are some stunning Australian rock albums that would benefit from a correctly done SACD treatment, like:
Midnight Oil
Cold Chisel
INXS

There are hundreds of albums I have that I would love on SACD, but there are too many to list.

I figured that if you didn't realize I was joking and take the comment in jest, then you and your wife really did have a problem!

Gardiner is recording Brahms' orchestral music on period instruments this and next fall; it's unclear if the choral music performed at the same time will also be recorded. It's great that it's being recorded, and would be nicer if it were released as SACD.

Brautigam performing the Schubert's last three piano sonatas on the fp would be a treat.

It would be nice if someone very rich could pay for the Met to do one studio recording a year.

Whenever Leon Fleisher makes his next recording, it might as well be done in the best possible sound.
