Thread: Never asking for music as a gift again

Another christmas, another well documented SACD wish list on CDUniverse, and another set of CDs that were not the SACDs requested. I guess folks just use the online wishlist as a 'guideline' and not actually purchase from the place the wishlist is from. I know its the thought that counts, and the gift is most appreciated, but it sure does make it tough asking for music.

Anyone else give up on asking for music as a gift, not knowing if you are going to get the SACD / DVD-A you asked for?

I made my Sa-cd.net wishlist public and sent my parents the link. I found two SACDs that I wanted sitting under the Christmas tree!

I haven't received a cd or SACD for Christmas or my birthday in years. I am the only one who knows what I want and never expect my wife or kids to buy me cds or SACDs any more.

I've tried getting my wife to look at my wish list, but she says she can't use the Internet. (Which made sense until she found out about some home decor she was interested in, and--boom--she was suddenly an expert on the web!)

But after a few years when she found that the discs I received were the only gifts I got "lit up" over, she started giving me a large check "for Super Audio" each Christmas and birthday. This has been great! A twice annual shopping spree!

Still, I was one of those who asked for a public wish list, and I'd love to see it actually get used!

In 42 years of serious record collecting I have NEVER received the gift of a recording that I actually wanted; this despite preparing and distributing detailed lists for the first 10 years or so. Obviously I've long since given up. As things stand these days if I were to give out lists my friends and family would only feel intimidated by them after first asking: "what the @#$%'s a sacd?" This is one of the great disadvantages of losing bricks and mortar stores. For many of those years the Tower gift certificates and later gift cards fit the bill quite nicely. Now the gift cards are for Borders and Barnes and Noble where the local Philadelphia area stores' sacd selections consist of the Philadelphia Orchestra discs on Ondine and Janine Jansen's Four Seasons. Well, books are great too, so I guess the outcome is fine.

Hey all, a noobie here. Just got my first universal DVD player for XMas. Woo-HOO!

Been listening to DVD-As on my Onkyo 7.1 for a year. It's not an audiophile system by any means, but it's pretty sweet. It just got a lot sweeter with SA-CD and DSD. Treated my wife and self to about a dozen titles last week. (That's how you get the right titles at XMas) :-)

Fascinating the different ways of using soundcsapes. Would love to see the Queen's Hits that is so excellently executed on DTS DVD (and DVD-A) done on SA-CD.

Nice to see y'all here. Best for '08!

I have been quite fortunate, 11 sacds this Christmas, Nine from my wish list and 2 from my Library....guess someone was in a hurry and was confused! Those were returned for credit. I would still have a smiling face if I weren't having a tooth extracted and an implant placed tomorrow - what fun!

Came back from visiting the in-laws in NYC and picked up a few titles at the downtown Virgin store. I definetly recommend a visit there to see the SACD classical section. Its nice seeing the variety of titles at a B&M store. Picked up Vanska Beethoven 9, Netrebko arias, and the Kunzel nutcracker.
