The combination of a Cirus DSD chip and PCM1796 in Denon 3910 it seems is obviously programmable. Its also switchable down to 48hz as is mandated for normal ouputs. An expert in upgrading has reported that turning the output to PCM delivers as per factory is 176hz sampling / 24. This switching in theory overcomes the "noise problem"of DSD and in some cases will improve the sonics as per very very top end (PCM) machines. Personally the use of various noise reduction techniques probably evens things up.Jung superregulators/ems cloth/etc PS Ive a spare 1796 if any one wants it?

Any news on the Pioneer PD-D6-J? I cant find any info about this player? Does anyone know if there is a huge difference between pure DSD and converted signal?

There was another thread some time ago that discussed this question and I believe some of the players you cite were mentioned.

Does your Pioneer player have HDMI out?
From Brochure: "The PD-D6’s back panel offers you the choice of using coaxial or optical digital output for playing CDs, or the analogue R/L RCA outputs for CDs and SACDs."
If it doesn't have HDMI than definately no DSD out - period.
