I keep finding wonderful reviews of this disc. Is is possible to buy it for other than $54? The highest price I have ever seen for any disc - and seems to be absolutely ridiculous.

I purchased my copy for $26 (including shipping) from an “affiliate” of Amazon.com. That is, I looked up the disc at Amazon.com, found it to be too expensive ($54) and happen to see a link called “new and used”. I clicked there and found it available from Japan for $26. My copy was new and the service from Japan was great.

Curious, where can I find some of the other reviews that you mentioned of this disc?

I think you were lucky. I tried Amazon and got the "preorder" screen - and no less expensive discs listed. As for other reviews, Robt C. Lang has touted this at audioasylum, and barb has one today at SA-CD.net. I have the Chesky Hank Jones album, which is excellent and priced reasonably.

The Amazon prices (besides Amazon.co.jp) are indeed ridiculous.
By ordering from Marketplace sellers or from a japanese store (hmv.co.jp or earlyrecords.com), you should be able to get most japanese releases for under $30 including shipping.
Unfortunately, amazon.co.jp does no longer offer regular airmail shipping, which makes it much more expensive than other japanese stores.
