Hello,

New to the forum, regrettably late to the party. I’ve been trying to play catch-up and collect the out-of-print Stones SACD digipaks with mixed results. I initially made the mistake of ordering through Amazon, which still lists the new jewel case CD's as SACD's (the links here go to those non-SACD items). I happened to be on Amazon today when I noticed there are new Japanese import Stones SACD's listed with January 2008 release dates. They are not all in stock yet, but the site seems to indicate they will be soon. I looked around online and I see them popping up at CD Universe, even Target. (I didn't want to post any links, but if you search "Rolling Stones SACD" on Amazon, you will see what I am referring to.)

Does anyone know anything about these? Are they truly SACD Hybrids? Similar packaging? The same ABKO remastering, etc? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

The Stones SA-CDs were released as a Japanese domestic set at the same time as the initial release. Other than packaging they're likely identical. This site has details on THREE sets. I keep on asking for people to tell me the barcodes of the CDs masquerading as SA-CDs so I can remove the links here but I'm still waiting.

I purchased Hot Rocks through Amazon, they advertised it as a Hybrid, but it is a remastered CD. Don't believe what they advertise.

I have learnt the hard way with Amazon if they say that a disc is SACD remastered in their eyes it may mean remastered FROM sacd to RBCD which while being truthful is liable to be misleading to those who are hungry for hard to get SACD's. I only buy if it described as SACD (nothing else) and if the links from this site lead you to it. Even then if buying from a third party seller I almost always check unless it a SACD only release. Although amazon are usually happy to accept their mistakes others are not, but you almost always end up losing the postage.

I ordered AFTERMATH The Rolling Stones: Aftermath at Amazon.com and receive a regular CD(DSD Remastered) that have the BarCode: 0 18771 94762 2
It have a C-2002 ABKCO mark, disc made in USA by UML. After two miships I gave up buying After Math.

All I know is that the second batch of Japanese Stones Remasters are being done in SHM-CD....whether they are DSD remastered, they are still glorified RBCDs....and these are from the same people who glorified SACD when the first batch was released back in 2002! And the initial batch has also been remastered in SHM-CD in July of this year......good luck finding the initial pressings in SACD! Beggars Banquet [in SACD] is fetching some big bucks! You'd think that ABKCO would re-press the entire first batch since they sold so well?

To anyone looking for Stones SACDs, my best advice is E-bay (where you will pay a premium) or just checking the stock in every CD store you happen to enter. I assembled pretty much the entire collection through CD stores.. It's just luck, whether or not a particular store will have older stock. Just today I saw The Rolling Stones Now! on SACD in my local store (already I have that one), so there's still hope. They are definitely a huge upgrade and worth seeking out. They are also, incidentally, light years better sound-wise than the Stones recent release of post-ABKCO remasters. Good luck.

I was able to quickly complete most of my Stones SACD collection last year by purchasing titles from several sources: the Marketplace on the Steve Hoffman site, Ebay, and local stores like FYE and AKA Music here in Philly. On average I probably ended up paying a slightly more than list price on the collection. Some are very difficult to find at any price while others are available in abundance at low prices. (I did much better with the Dylan SACD box and the Dead Can Dance SACDs)

I was also able to buy a couple of The Rolling Stones SACDs through eBAy and the Amazon Marketplace. As with all my eBay and Amazon Marketplace purchases so far, I've only had good experiences. What I would recommend anyone do though, which is what I've done on quite a few occasions, is send a message to the seller asking them to confirm that the disc is actually SACD. If I don't get an answer (which has happened more than once), I don't place an order. I had this very recently when enquiring about the Herbie Mann "Eastern European Roots" SACD from an Amazon Marketplace seller. I made sure first that I used the link on this forum to access the disc/site. I have noticed that none of the sites mention it's an SACD - hence my enquiry to a seller. Perhaps I'll try again soon with another seller.
