My Not-Wanted-on-a-Desert-Island List
For various reasons, I wish I'd saved my money and not ordered:

ok Beagle Im glad this started as Ive been put off three items.
PS One on your list is one of my favourites...I bet you know which one.
I will also relist mine,

John Williams: The Magic Box
Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 - Runnicles
Nyman: Piano Concerto etc. - RPO/Carney
Michael Hill: Black Gold and Goddesses Bold
Scary Music: Cincinnati Pops Orchestra/Kunzel
B.B. King: Reflections On Life
Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison
Bruch: Symphonies Nos. 1-3 - Wildner
Harris: Symphonies 8 & 9, Memories of a Child's Sunday - Feinberg, Miller
Schumann, Lalo, Saint-Saëns: Cello Concertos - Starker

Reasons range from boringness , musical performance ,sonics or political content. A load of Membrans with reversed stereo tracks and virtually no gaps and shrill treble came also came close as do the poorer Mercury/Living stereos.Tape hiss, compression and a few poor performances ie Gaiete Parissiene

I'm guessing the Amsterdam Sinf - I like that one! I also like the Heifetz Beethoven, though not the Mendelssohn; I've heard Mendel with Cantelli - Heifetz plays it as if he hates it just as much there, too. Tant pis!

I didn't care for these:

Bach: Suites Nos. 1-4 - Fasolis - hectoring playing
Dukas: Sorcerer's Apprentice etc. - Cincinnati/Lopez-Cobos - dull compared to Fournet on Denon RBCD
Mozart: Piano Sonatas - Brendel is far more enjoyable in surround.
It's not just the sound, the performance comes to life. Strange.

Apart from the Starker, which I also like, I've avoided the rest of the lists, partly due to being forewarned. Many thanks for that!

Dohnanyi: Variations on a Nursery Song etc. - Dohnanyi, Starker has just gone onto my wish list.

Soundwise, my biggest disappointments were with many of the Fantasy SACDs. I found the mastering to be inferior to other CD or LP reissues. A wasted opportunity to make definitive reissues on the best digital format.

Here are some pop ones:

Feeder - "Comfort" in Sound. Right!
Michael Jackson - Thriller, which it doesn't anymore due to sounding like its had all of the air sucked out of it.
Destinys Child - Survivor. Well, what did I expect.

Meatloaf - Bat out of Hell
Oasis - (What's the Story) Morning Glory?

I never got how Thriller sounds so bad to some people - there's no lack of bass whatsoever on my system with this one.

Agree about Oasis. Bass isn't an issue for me with Thriller its the overly sharp transients on the drums that do my ears in.

Thriller sounds fine on my system.

Don't really like the sound of:
Elton John GBYBR.
Toto-Hydra
Journey-Escape
Journey-Greatest Hits
