Does anyone know about the new NIN album "The Slip", being released in some sort of hybrid SACD / Dualdisc boxset?
I found this advertised on amazon.com..... www.amazon.com/Slip-Nine-Inch-Nails/dpB001NPC/ref=xs_gb_20_left-3_5_B001B71NPC?pf_rd_p=305206101&pf_rd_t=701&pf_rd_i=20&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0F2VX2SSNCE33SWXKJNA

The link doesn't work. With http:// in front of it, it should be parsed alright. Let's see:

As far as I'm aware neither Ghosts I-IV nor The Slip are released on SACD. There's a BD of Ghosts but the audio it contains is no more advanced than what you could find on a DVD-Audio, or I even believe DVD-Video: 24-bit 96kHz stereo -- no multichannel.

I was able to find a link to the item on amazon but I think they just have some really confused categorization. The disc is listed as The Slip with product details as LP Record and format of [BOX SET] [SINGLE] [DUALDISC] [ENHANCED] [HYBRID SACD] [RINGLE] [SOUNDTRACK] with only 1 disc included. I have no idea what format this is

Wow, I see it now. This is weird.

By the way, what is a Ringle? Sounds like a portmanteau of ringtone and single, so I figure it's a (complete?) track that you may use as ringtone?

Maybe it's a 5" single LP on one side with the Hybrid SACD on the other. making it a DualDisc?

A ringle combines ringtones with singles. Now it does say this is all on one disc, so would the ringle be on the LP side or the SACD side?

Now I am really getting silly I agree Amazon has got this description all mixed up.

NINs has released the Slip as a free 96kHz download, and it is being released as a single LP in a gatefold cover. Could it be they are including the web address for the free 96kHz download with the LP and that is what Amazon thinks the Hybrid SACD part is?

I ordered "Take My Heart" by Claire Martin on Linn SACD about a year ago directly from Amazon (not a seller) and got the HDCD, when I wrote a letter to Amazon stating I received the HDCD not the SACD, they sent me a return label and I requested a replacement of the correct "SACD" disc. Instead they gave me a credit and deducted the return shipping from it, when I asked why? They said the listing was correct and the UPC code matched the item in the item description and that if they sent a replacement I would get the same item again. Even after I tried to explain HDCD and SACD are NOT they same thing, they never understood. And they never credited my shipping because they claim they shipped the correct item and since I returned the correct item they will not pay for return shipping. Thus with Amazon HDCD = SACD, beware. I no longer buy SACDs from them after this experience.

I'm going to be optimistic and think this is a new multi-dimensional format that incorporates and includes (LP,CD, SACD, DVD-Audio,mp3,Ringle(lets stop arguing about how awesome it is and just enjoy it) and the inversely proportionate 1 disc box set) and we won't really understand for a few millennium. It was brought into existence at the point David Bowman encountered his future self as the Star Child and projected the technology backwards from his version of 2001 to our current present of 2008. The big question is will Oppo be able to incorporate playback for this into their future players so they can truly be called universal. :)

This, and other future developments, have already been incorporated into future players.
