At least this time I'm in some agreement with Polly :) The sonics and quality of orchestral playing are indeed rather disappointing but I'm afraid Nott's reading also leaves plenty to be desired. It's awkwardly phrased and poorly structured. One of the worst Mahler 1s I've heard in ages.

Can't really agree - I found this very imaginative, and well-played. Certainly better than Zinman's which is very undercharacterised and a tad sterile.

Still I think I prefer MTT's M1 of the three SACDs I have.
