I pre-ordered this SACD, it is supposed to be released March 2nd and I am so excited I can't hardly wait! I listened to the streaming audio and this sound like it is going to be killer.

It is Jazz influenced classical music written by some of my favorite modern composers: Michael Daugherty, John Williams and Christopher Rouse plus a new (for me) composer Ned Rorem.

It includes Branford Marsalis Quartet with the North Carolina Symphony Orchestra conducted by Grant Llewellyn. Thanks Bissie!

I am very happy that BIS has recently recognized the talent of John Williams and released the tuba concerto (on CD) and now this piece that is derived from his soundtrack to Catch me if you can. John Williams is mainly know for his film music (Star wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter etc), but is a classical composer as well with a lot of solo concertos and orchestral music that is waiting to be proberly recorded. If Bissie reads this, I would love recordings of the Clarinet and trumpet concertos and his symphony as well.

Robert thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love this SACD!! I like it even better than my current favorite BIS SACD: Shilkret: Trombone Concerto etc. - Lindberg/Neschling

Every single composition on this SACD is fabulous, truly fabulous! I have always loved Michael Daugherty and his Sunset Strip is very enjoyable, is there any possibility of recording his Metropolis Symphony?

The John Williams Saxophone Concerto was superb, I also would like to hear more classical works by John Williams.

Ned Rorem really Jazzy "Lions" which uses Branford Marsalis' whole quartet is up there with the best hybrid Classical-Jazz compositions I've heard.

I also like Christopher Rouse's Friandises but not as much as the first three, this one will take a few more listens to soak everything in, I have only played the SACD twice but I am so thrilled I had to let you know.

This is the first recording I've seen with the North Carolina Symphony.

My vote so far for Classical SACD of the year! Thanks a bunch! (;-)

I have re-listened to this PCM BIS SACD along with the other PCM one I liked Shilkret: Trombone Concerto etc. - Lindberg/Neschling and I stand behind my comments even after Robert von Bahr confirmed both are only 44.1kHz PCM. It took many days and many playings to get over my initial shock at his bold revelation.

It does have a PCM signature but all PCM recorded SACDs to my ears have a particular PCM sound even at resolutions much higher than 44.1kHz. It's taken many years to get my ears adjusted to PCM sound. It does not have the air, ambiance, bass presence or huge soundstage of a well made DSD recording but it never expected it to. It NEVER betrays it's 44.1kHz origin, the resolution does indeed sound much higher to me.

If your only exposure to 44.1kHz PCM has been of the 16 Bit variety such as CDs or computer downloads, be assured that 24 Bit is an audible increase in resolution over those. And the resulting sound quality of this SACD is quite good and had me fooled that it was 88.2kHz PCM not 44.1kHz PCM.

24 Bit is definitely an improvement over 16 Bit and I will continue to purchase BIS SACDs of unusual and rare repertoire otherwise unavailable on SACD as I have been doing since BIS' switch back from DSD to PCM in 2005.

The main thing is the music, this is wonderful and extremely enjoyable music and not to be missed.

American Spectrum is hardly challenging as orchestral works go, so not the best example to cite.
