Congratulations to Mobile Fidelity for releasing such a great album on SACD but wonder why they are not using the same format for Little Feat "Dixie Chicken".
Let's hope they will keep up the good work with other "classic" rock records.

Music From Big Pink was released by Capitol on DVD-Audio in 2002.

This sacd has a terrible sound. I just can not belive that most guys on this site says the sound is good. They can not know how good sound sounds! The sound is flat, dead, no bottom end and no dynamics. Some of the songs are good, but generally this cd is overrrated. Some of the MOFI cd's have a general "problem", sounding a bit lifeless and dull.

Thanks I just took it off my wish list, no bottom end is deal breaker for me. Dead, flat and no dynamics are not so great either, I appreciate the warning.

Since I already own the DVD-Audio of "Music From Big Pink" [it sounds amazing), I'll pass on the stereo sacd, although I can't imagine MoFi doing a less than stellar job. Other reviews (one on Amazon) call it audiophile quality. I'll hold out for the SACD of Rock Of Ages when it's released.

Are you judging the absolute quality of the sound (including the recording quality, which is poor for most 1960s rock albums) or are you comparing the SACD to previous releases of the same album?

For it's releases, MFSL does not select the best sounding recordings, but wants to present classic albums in the best possible mastering quality.

If you've heard the new Blue Note SACD remasters from Analogue Productions {while not all are stellar] they produce a sonic upgrade which is staggering (and even surpasses the flawed vinyl pressings of the era). Music From Big Pink as played on my Meridian 800/861 in 5.1 audio surpasses both the vinyl and any RBCD remastering I have heard. The results will NOT be the same via a universal player, no matter what the pedigree. But one has to agree that using the absolute masters and 2009 mastering equipment that on the proper equipment, the SACD of Music From Big Pink (which I do NOT own) will certainly sound better than any previous optical incarnation (but I'll still opt for the 5.1 since it was done tastefully).

I have both the DVD-A and the SACD. The new Mofi sounds great by comparison with any CD issue to date and certainly as good as (if not better in terms of low-end) than the DVD-A. Those who complain about this SACD can't be familiar with the original. This was never a showcase recording, even on the original vinyl, although I've always found it rather honest for its time.
